Your health, your way

Health isn't one size fits all. With LERA, you get treatments carefully designed to balance your body's systems and a health plan made to work seamlessly with your life and your goals.

Meet Julia, her focus: Hormone Balance

Julia is a 42-year-old professional juggling work and kids. She was feeling more tired than usual, and her periods had started coming closer together with more PMS symptoms. Overall, she felt moodier and more irritable.

Her PCP and gynecologist ran some basic tests and told her everything was normal. They offered her an antidepressant and sleeping medication, but she doesn’t like taking pharmaceuticals unless she absolutely has to.

Instead, Julia wanted to understand what was happening and why it felt like her body was changing.

Sleep

Lately, Julia’s sleep has been suffering. She can’t fall asleep easily, and she wakes up early to start working before her kids get up.

Work

Julia works a high-stress job with long hours. Between that and taking care of her kids, she finds it hard to find time to take care of herself.

Diet

While Julia typically tries to eat healthy meals, her busy schedule can mean grabbing a bite when she can rather than being guided by what her body needs.

Finding the root cause

Our approach to healing starts at the body’s foundation, the LERA Core Four. With LERA, Julia was able to dig deeper than basic testing. Her Hormone Health needed the most attention. But her autonomic nervous system dysfunction and poor stress resilience also needed a holistic approach to healing.

Julia’s hormones were out of balance.

After testing and analyzing Julia’s female hormones, we discovered that her progesterone was much lower than optimal. We also found that she had iron deficiency anemia and low vitamin D3, which was further affecting her hormones, mood, and energy.

Chronic stress was straining her autonomic nervous system, disrupting her cortisol levels and disturbing her sleep. Additionally, several of Julia’s diet and lifestyle habits were undermining her health.

Julia’s focus: Hormone Balance

Other focuses: Autonomic Nervous System

Low progesterone is an important biomarker that can significantly impact a woman's reproductive health and overall well-being. It can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, difficulty conceiving, and increased risk of miscarriage in pregnant women. Beyond reproduction, low progesterone may contribute to mood disorders, sleep disturbances, and bone density issues, making it an essential marker for assessing hormonal balance and addressing various systemic health concerns.

Iron deficiency anemia is a common but serious condition characterized by insufficient red blood cells due to lack of iron. It can cause fatigue, weakness, pale skin, and shortness of breath, significantly impacting quality of life and overall health. Identifying this biomarker is crucial as it can indicate underlying issues such as chronic blood loss, malabsorption, or inadequate dietary intake. Addressing it can lead to improvements in your energy levels, cognitive function, and immune system performance.

Vitamin D3 deficiency is a widespread issue that can have far-reaching effects on overall health. This crucial nutrient plays a vital role in bone health, immune function, mood regulation, and even gene expression. Low levels of Vitamin D3 have been linked to increased risk of osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, depression, and certain cancers, making it an essential biomarker for assessing and optimizing overall health and disease prevention strategies.

Chronic stress, often measured through biomarkers like cortisol levels or heart rate variability, is a significant factor in many health issues. Prolonged elevation of stress hormones can lead to systemic inflammation, weakened immune function, and disrupted sleep patterns. Identifying chronic stress is crucial as it can contribute to a wide range of health problems including cardiovascular disease, digestive issues, and mental health disorders. So incorporating stress management strategies can be an essential part of overall health optimization.

Lifestyle habits encompass various measurable factors that significantly impact overall health. These can include physical activity levels, sleep quality and duration, dietary patterns, and stress management techniques. Assessing these habits is crucial as they directly influence numerous biomarkers and health outcomes, including cardiovascular health, metabolic function, and mental well-being. Optimizing lifestyle habits can lead to profound improvements in overall health, disease prevention, and longevity.

The path to Julia’s best self

Julia didn’t want to just mask her symptoms with prescription medication. She wanted to get to the root of why she wasn’t feeling like herself. Based on our testing analysis, we crafted a prioritized plan with Julia that she could easily access in the LERA app to stay on track and see her progress over time.

Balancing Julia’s hormones

We designed Julia’s nutrition and supplement recommendations to give her hormonal system the balance it needed and address dietary deficiencies and sensitivities.

Building stress resilience

To recalibrate Julia’s autonomic nervous system, we provided recommendations for regular exercises and stress management strategies like meditation and mindfulness.

Forming sustainable habits

Several of Julia’s lifestyle habits were putting additional strain on her health. We worked with her to develop a plan she was eager to follow, with small steps to make it easy.

Julia’s successes

Within three months of implementing these changes, Julia’s periods were normalized and her PMS symptoms were virtually gone. She was sleeping better and had more energy, and her moodiness resolved once her periods normalized. Julia enjoyed being actively engaged in the Hormone Balance community, able to support other women in the group beginning their LERA journey. She was finally able to get back to feeling like herself, and she felt better equipped to deal with perimenopausal changes on the horizon.

Meet Natalie, her focus: Gut Health

38-year-old professional Natalie had been experiencing bloating, gas, and loose stools for a year or so. She couldn’t identify triggers but noticed it worsened with stress, mostly job related. But she didn’t have time to prepare many meals at home, often having to eat on the go instead.

Her PCP recommended Imodium and an SSRI, suggesting that stress was causing IBS. After months of treatment, her GI issues still weren’t resolving and were continuing to interfere with her daily life.

Natalie wasn’t satisfied with her PCP’s diagnosis or solutions. She wanted to do a deeper dive into the potential cause of her issues.

Work

Natalie’s job keeps her on the go, so it’s critical to equip her with information she can use to prioritize her health wherever she is.

Diet

Natalie’s diet tends to vary based on her schedule and convenience, so she hasn’t been able to find a trigger for her GI issues.

Stress

Her job is a major cause of stress in her life, but Natalie hasn’t been finding relief in her doctor’s recommendation of an SSRI.

Finding the root cause

Our approach to healing starts at the body’s foundation, the LERA Core Four. With LERA, Natalie was able to find out more about what was contributing to her GI issues. Gut Health dysfunction was the main cause of her symptoms but certainly not isolated; her Autonomic Nervous System and Hormone Health were also impacted and played a role in her symptoms.

Natalie had gut dysbiosis and food sensitivities.

Analyzing Natalie’s testing results, we identified an imbalance in Natalie’s gut microbiome, as well as significant food sensitivities, most likely contributing to her daily GI issues. Additionally, she also had high morning cortisol consistent with ongoing stress, highlighting the foundational power of the gut-brain connection. As a result of the cortisol disruption, her hormones were also mildly imbalanced.

Natalie’s focus: Gut Health

Other impacted systems: Autonomic nervous system, Hormones

Gut dysbiosis is an imbalance in the gut microbiota. More and more, it’s recognized as a key factor in various health conditions. Left untreated, it can lead to inflammation, impaired nutrient absorption, and altered metabolic function. Women experiencing gut dysbiosis may experience symptoms like hormonal imbalances, increased susceptibility to autoimmune diseases, and mood disorders. Gut health is a fundamental aspect of your overall well-being, and addressing gut dysbiosis can help to improve everything from digestion to mental health.

Various food sensitivities, often detected through biomarkers like IgG antibodies, can indicate an inflammatory immune response to specific food proteins. These sensitivities can lead to various symptoms including digestive discomfort, skin issues, and even systemic inflammation. Food sensitivities are an important and often overlooked piece of your healthcare puzzle. Temporarily eliminating these foods and repairing the accompanying underlying gut health issues can lead to significant improvements in gut health, nutrient absorption, and overall well-being.

Hormone balance is essential for maintaining optimal health, especially in women, as hormones regulate a number of your body’s functions. Imbalances can lead to a variety of issues including menstrual irregularities, weight gain, mood swings, and fatigue. Hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol play critical roles in reproductive health, metabolism, and stress response.

The path to Natalie’s best self

Natalie wanted to explore more options than just prescription drugs to truly find relief for both her gut health and mental health. Based on our testing and analysis, we were able to design a health plan for her that incorporated more holistic solutions — without taking up too much time out of her busy day.

Balancing the gut biome

We provided Natalie with a personalized nutrition plan that eliminated gluten and dairy from her diet. We recommended key supplements to support microbiome rebalancing.

Building stress resilience

To combat the impact of acute stress, we encouraged Natalie to implement daily mindfulness techniques and use targeted nutraceuticals to mitigate her high cortisol levels.

Making time for change

Natalie had trouble staying on top of her schedule — forget about making major health changes. But we prioritized every step in the LERA app, making it crystal clear what small things do each day and making it easy to make time for herself.

Natalie’s successes

Natalie quickly noticed improvements in her gut health. Within the first 30 days of implementing dietary changes and consistently taking her supplements, her gas, bloating, and loose stool were virtually gone. Natalie regularly joined our webinars and workshops about stress-related topics, and she learned to love her daily mindfulness sessions. She no longer worried about her gut health and how it might disrupt her day.

Meet Pam, her focus: Metabolic Efficiency

Pam is a 34-year-old mom of three small children. She was frustrated about some recent weight gain. Although she hadn’t changed her diet, she gained over 20 pounds in the past year and was feeling unusually tired.

After having her third child a few years ago, Pam hadn’t felt the same. Between working full time and caring for her family, she rarely had time for self-care or putting her needs first.

Pam wanted to lose weight, get her energy back, and start taking steps to prevent diabetes.

Work

Pam juggles a full-time job and kids, and her fatigue was starting to negatively affect both her work and family time.

Family

With a strong family history of diabetes on both parents’ sides, Pam was worried that her weight gain might put her at risk.

Diet

While Pam generally eats healthy, she’d never monitored her blood sugar. She was eager to see what she could learn.

Finding the root cause

Our approach to healing starts at the body’s foundation, the LERA Core Four. LERA testing helped Pam discover several health factors underlying her confusing recent weight gain. Her Metabolic System was the main priority, but balancing her hormones and incorporating stress management would also help to improve her energy and mood.

Pam was prediabetic and had Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism.

Our analysis of Pam’s blood work confirmed that Pam was on the path to diabetes. Elevated thyroid antibodies revealed that her thyroid was struggling. Testing also showed evidence of inflammation as well as moderate food sensitivities. Her vitamin B12 was very low, and her sedentary lifestyle and carb-heavy diet were also negatively impacting her health.

Pam’s focus: Metabolic Efficiency

Other focuses: Hormones, Gut Health

While not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes, higher than normal blood sugar levels can lead to complications if unmanaged. Prediabetes and insulin resistance can increase your risk of developing type two diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. We can prioritize diet and exercise to significantly reduce the risk of progression to diabetes.

Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, inhibiting thyroid function. The thyroid produces hormones that play a critical role in regulating your metabolism, energy levels, and overall hormonal balance, so an underactive thyroid can result in symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and depression.

Imbalances can lead to a variety of issues including menstrual irregularities, weight gain, mood swings, and fatigue. Hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol play critical roles in reproductive health, metabolism, and stress response.

The path to Pam’s best self

Pam didn’t just want a diet to help her lose weight — she wanted to learn more about what was happening to her body and what she could do to maintain better health. Our testing uncovered a couple underlying causes for concern, and we were able to help Pam find the help she needed, easily.

Monitoring blood sugar

We provided Pam with a personalized nutrition plan focused on low-glycemic foods in order to restore optimal metabolic health.

Thyroid health and nutrition support

We also referred Pam to a practitioner to start thyroid medication. She required B12 supplementation as well as daily nutrient support.

Incorporating daily change

We encouraged Pam to start to incorporate consistent exercise to accelerate metabolic healing, using LERA’s behavior change strategies to start slow and prioritize the most impactful steps.

Pam’s successes

After implementing these changes, Pam lost 20 pounds in eight weeks. She found support in the Metabolic Efficiency community, where she enjoyed sharing recipes and ideas with members on a similar journey. She started a small dose of thyroid medication, which greatly improved her energy within a few weeks, leading to better engagement and enjoyable interactions with her family and friends. After six months, repeat blood work showed a complete reversal of her prediabetic condition.

Meet Gloria, her focus: Stress Resiliency

Gloria routinely felt overwhelmed and anxious. A 49 year-old stay-at-home mom of two teens, her sleep was suffering because she couldn’t turn her brain off. She often felt “wired and tired” and moody. Her period had been irregular the past couple of years, often with months-long gaps.

She was recently diagnosed with anxiety, and her doctor started her on Prozac. But her mood issues still led to conflict with her husband, and she often turned to alcohol to wind down and cope with her stress.

Gloria doesn't think Prozac is helping, and she’s worried about her marriage. She hopes that further testing might reveal the reasons for her symptoms. She is desperate to feel like herself again.

Sleep

Despite trying to go to bed early, Gloria can’t seem to wind down and get a good night’s sleep, causing her to feel tired.

Anxiety

Gloria’s recent anxiety diagnosis helped get her a prescription to address it, but she didn’t think it was helping and wanted to get to the root of her anxiety to treat it effectively.

Daily habits

Many nights, Gloria will try to wind down with alcohol. But instead of calming her nervous system, the alcohol actually further strains it over time.

Finding the root cause

Our approach to healing starts at the body’s foundation, the LERA Core Four. Gloria’s strained Autonomic Nervous System was a top priority, but her hormonal changes and metabolic health were also playing a key role in her overall well-being.

Gloria’s autonomic nervous system was dysregulated.

Our testing showed that Gloria’s anxiety and moodiness could be linked with imbalances in her autonomic nervous system. We also found that Gloria’s female hormones and testosterone levels were low, consistent with perimenopause, and that her cortisol rhythm was dysfunctional throughout the day. Her fasting blood sugar was also borderline high, and her unhealthy coping mechanisms had further contributed to her health symptoms.

Gloria’s focus: Stress Management

Other focuses: Hormones, Metabolic System

The transition period into menopause, perimenopause, can bring about significant changes in your health due to fluctuating hormone levels. Symptoms like irregular periods, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood swings are common. This hormonal shift can also impact bone density, cardiovascular health, and metabolic function. By prioritizing lifestyle adjustments such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management, along with appropriate support, we can improve quality of life and overall well-being during perimenopause and keep you informed on what to expect.

A dysfunctional cortisol rhythm means that the natural pattern of your cortisol production is disrupted. Cortisol is a key stress hormone, typically peaking in the morning and declining throughout the day. Disruptions can lead to fatigue, sleep disturbances, weight gain, and impaired immune function. This imbalance can also affect mood, cognitive performance, and overall energy levels.

High blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, can lead to health complications if not properly managed. Persistent high blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels, nerves, and organs, and it can increase your risk of developing type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and kidney damage. We can monitor your blood sugar to significantly improve your overall health. By prioritizing a balanced diet and regular physical activity, we can effectively manage blood sugar levels and prevent long-term complications.

The path to Gloria’s best self

Gloria was worried that the anxiety and moodiness she’d been experiencing were affecting her relationships with her kids and husband. We designed her personalized health plan to focus on mental health, balancing Gloria’s autonomic nervous system and hormones while introducing healthy techniques she could use to regulate her stress levels.

Nourishing Gloria’s mental health

We provided Gloria with a personalized nutrition plan focused on optimizing brain health and balancing her blood sugar. We also recommended key supplements to help calm and recalibrate her nervous system.

Balancing Gloria’s hormones

We also referred Gloria to a LERA practitioner to discuss bioidentical hormone treatment and connected her with a health coach who specialized in women’s health issues, including major life transitions.

Tailored education and events

During our regular workshops, Gloria was able to learn several nervous system regulation techniques that she could use everyday, especially before bed, to help herself wind down naturally.

Gloria’s successes

After starting bioidentical hormone therapy to balance her hormones and optimize testosterone, Gloria’s mood and sleep quickly improved. She began regular sessions with a therapist who helped her realize that the prospect of her children leaving home soon was at the root of her anxiety. This realization and opportunity to discuss her emotions enabled Gloria’s nervous system to unwind and relax. She was finally feeling like herself again, and her relationship with her husband was improving daily.
